We would like to continue to ask for the names of those now serving on active duty in areas of conflict in the military or for other agencies, so that we can add their names to our book of prayer for them, which is kept in church. Please use the form below to send us the Branch of Service, Rank, Name and Your Name and Relationship. We will print the names in the Bulletin, from time to time, so our service men and women can receive recognition and personal prayers, but the names remain in church to be remembered at our Masses. Names will appear on this page, as they arrive at our office.
Navy Lt. Cmdr. Paul Shaughnessy, a Catholic chaplain, conducts Mass for a group of Marines at Camp Hotel in the northern area of the besieged city of Najaf, Iraq.
It is with regret that we inform you that one of the Service People we have been praying for has been killed in action. According to a report we received from his cousin,
US Marine, Jonathan Collins
died in the war in Iraq. May he rest in peace. We continue to pray for his family and friends.
Lt. William Wade Zirkle was in Iraq when he and seven other Marines were in two humvees in a convoy in Fallujah. They were hit by an explosive device, and his seven buddies were killed. He was blown out of the humvee, and regained conciousness on the helicopter flight to Baghdad. He was then flown to Germany, and then to a hospital in San Antonio, Texas. He suffered burns on his arms and hands, and surgery and skin grafts were done there.
He is now back in Virginia at the family home.
He has a way to go yet, and all the prayers said for him are certainly appreciated!
